Disruptive technology will empower the masses to forge a new paradigm on the web
Your spot on the web has arrived. And better yet, it's all for free. editspot llc is gearing up to launch spotlets.com – free multi-page web sites capable of hosting video, audio, photos, blogs and much more in fully integrated public-beta fashion – this fall.
metaphor is serving as the agency of record for editspot, providing
naming and brand identity development for the suite of editspot programs, including spotlets, webspot, suitespot and multispot. The
creative team at metaphor built the interface design and templates for
the products as well as delivering the overall Web site design,
copywriting and information architecture. The entire national launch
for the editspot suite of programs, including the development of
strategic marketing plans and media relations, is being coordinated by
metaphor. According to editspot entrepreneur Ran Mullins, spotlets will provide a breakthrough technology that will leapfrog many other offerings on the web – including Facebook, MySpace, Ning and similar sites – by allowing multi-dimensional web sites with exquisitely designed templates tailored for business owners, entrepreneurs, college and high school students, sports enthusiasts, hobby devotees and virtually anyone who wants their own spot on the web. Web templates designed by professional artists and programmers will be offered in more than 40 categories to reflect particular visions and passions. The templates also can be altered to adopt particular preferences.
spotlets is powered by editspot, an elegant web site content management platform designed to give average computer users the power to control their own web sites. It also will be the first free software development tool that allows editing and managing a Web site from the iPhone. spotlets has been in development for more than a year, and its release is expected to garner national recognition for Cincinnati as a software development hub.
"spotlets will transform the way the web is used by empowering the masses with Personal Internet Expression (PIE™), giving everyone their piece of the digital pie," Mullins said. "Small business owners, entrepreneurs, families, students and the general public will be able to create highly powerful and dynamic web sites with a few clicks and swashes of a mouse. Gone is the need for a Webmaster to be on hand to help launch a fully integrated web site that can be an effective, 24/7 marketing tool."
"Launching a web site with spotlets is easier than learning how to ride a bike, and a lot less painful," Mullins added. "Within minutes a first-time user on spotlets can create a web site anyone can be proud of using graphic files, photos and videos off a user's hard drive or pulled directly from the Internet."
Mullins said it's possible for editspot to offer spotlets for free as the service will be supported by advertising that will generate revenue for the Over-the-Rhine company.
spotlets will offer a seamless way to develop a home page with a consistent template for other internal pages, including intuitive navigation tools and WYSIWYG authoring tools that are easy to use and require little technical knowledge. Computer users who are comfortable with word processing programs and web browsers will find spotlets a snap.
"Anyone can learn to use spotlets as it has been designed by artists and publishing professionals who understand the logic and flow of the web publication process, and have made it simple and easy to comprehend," Mullins said. "This is the first product of its kind to be introduced, and will revolutionize web publishing forever. It's the first introduction of Web 3.0."
The editspot-powered program allows sorting, editing and spell-checking text like on a word processor; drag-and-drop content from other web sites; adding images, video and audio; and creating hyperlinks and downloadable files at any location, anytime. No extra software is needed to implement spotlets. "Users will be able to make updates to copy and change images easily, and can immediately go live with the changes," Mullins said.
As a result, spotlets will eliminate the need for common stop-gap measures such as paying a web designer, geek, friend's son or daughter to create and update Web sites, Mullins said.
Also this fall, editspot will introduce new levels of service particularly for businesses:
A small business version of web content management titled webspot at a
monthly cost of $50, providing all of the features of spotlets with no ads and much more storage and bandwidth. A higher-end version of web content management titled suitespot at a monthly cost of $100, enabling more document revisions and workflow approval stages than with with other web publishing programs.
A custom-priced product called multispot to give clients more sophisticated online options, empowering companies to offer hundreds of Web sites for its employees, customers and vendors.
"We're putting the geeks back in the closet," said Mullins. "Think of spotlets as Prometheus stealing fire from the gods and giving it to the masses. It is that revolutionary. Now it's everybody's game, with a level playing field, due to the elegance and ease of use of editspot and spotlets," Mullins said.
